Every day I am approached by multiple brands trying to get me to promote their products. There are so many products out there for your baby—especially for newborns—that it can all become so overwhelming and confusing. When it comes to finding brands that I am happy to represent, they need to align with my own core values and beliefs and I need to feel connected to what their selling and their story. When Owlet first came to me, I was immediately drawn to their product for several reasons, but really connected with their mission and their story; so, I am so happy to share and look forward to using this monitor with my baby girl when she arrives soon.

WHAT IS THE OWLET Smart Sock?

The Owlet Smart Sock is a little sock that slips easily onto the foot of your baby and tracks their heart rate and oxygen levels while they are sleeping to give you peace of mind. It will also track the amount of sleep they are getting during the night or during nap time.

HOW IT WORKS

The Owlet Smart Sock uses clinically-proven pulse oximetry: the same technology used to monitor your heart rate in hospital (think of the little clip they put on the end of your finger to test your heart rate).

It sends information it gathers back to its “base station,” which glows green. However, if the readings fall out of the preset range, then different coloured lights and sounds are used to notify you.

Something I also personally love is that the Owlet connects to your smart phone through an app, which will give you your baby’s heart rate, oxygen levels and hours of sleep (or what might only be minutes if you’re on #teamnosleep). This is so great because if you’re out and your baby is in the care of someone else, you can still check up on them.

The little sock is wireless and recharges via the base station. It also comes with 3 little socks sized 1 -3 for your growing baby.

 

OWLET’S VISION & STORY

The story and vision behind this product is what I have connected to. This smart little invention was thought up by 4 passionate (and very clever) dads and their vision was simple: “to create products to help parents know their babies are ok.”

I particularly loved Kurt’s story which I came across on their website while researching.

“When my wife and I got married we knew we wanted kids. The moment my wife and I decided to have kids, I was concerned about the potential of a hereditary heart condition that could impact our children. When my wife was an infant, she nearly passed away in her crib but my mother-in-law’s intuition led her to check on her. My wife was found lifeless in her crib and was rushed to the hospital for lifesaving, open-heart surgery. I knew I didn’t want to rely on my intuition alone. With the advances in today’s technology, I knew there had to be a better way to watch over our infants while they slept. It blew my mind that we had the technology to tell me practically everything, except for what was most important to me as a parent. Is my child okay? During the last five years, I’ve dedicated my time and energy to creating a safer world for infants and a better quality of life for parents.”

WHY WE ARE CHOOSING TO USE THE OWLET Smart Sock

As a mama already, I know the anxiety that surrounds newborns and their sleep. I can 100% remember rushing to the bassinet in the middle of the night, lying awake all night worried if Millie was ok or sneaking into her room during the night or naptime just to check if she was still breathing because I was so worried about her. I’m sure if you’re a mama you can remember or are doing this still now. I even did it just the other night 4 times just because I was in an anxious mood and for some reason was worried about Millie in her bed and she is nearly 3.

As someone who suffers from anxiety, I feel that this little Smart Sock can help remove a layer of that anxiety around sleep time and will hopefully allow me and my husband to sleep better ourselves.

After lots of research I believe in the technology used and its accuracy when used correctly. I also like the design of the sock and have read great reviews on the sock, so I can be assured it won’t slip off. I also love the fact it comes in different sizes to ensure correct fit.

It is an expensive piece of equipment which is why I researched it a lot before agreeing to promote to my audience and the sock does need recharging (lasts about 18 hours but you can turn it off) so you have to remember to do that which I could be bad at, but I believe that the benefits of this product will give David and myself peace of mind. Nothing is more important than the safety of my children and I’m sure all the mamas reading agree.
