PORT DOUGLAS WITH WYNDHAM RESORT + How to stay active on family holidays

Recently we visited the beautiful Port Douglas in Far North Queensland for a family holiday.

We were lucky enough to be invited to stay at the Ramada Resort by Wyndham.

GREAT LOCATION

The Ramada is in a great location about 5 minutes from the town centre and popular Macrossan street which is filled with fantastic restaurants, bars and cafes and has access to the beach and a playground really close by.

GREAT ROOMS FOR FAMILIES

We chose to stay in a 2-bedroom apartment. The rooms were super spacious with 2 large bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (one with a bath for the kids), a living/dining and my favourite part – a full sized, fully equipped kitchen.

When we travel, we try to stay in apartments so that we have a kitchen to cook our breakfast and prepare food and snacks for the kids and we will continue to stay in Wyndham resorts now we’ve stayed because they really have all the home comforts.

This apartment was perfect for a family and you could easily sleep up to 6 in it.

They also had a cot for Remi and a high chair for us to borrow – made our lives so much easier than other places we’ve stayed. There’s nothing better than staying in a resort that is so family friendly like this one.

PS They also have a great room service menu for lazy nights in.

5 QUICK TIPS FOR STAYING ACTIVE & HEALTHY ON HOLIDAYS

CA8935C2-F939-4249-828C-F08BAAB05647.JPG

1.     SKIP THE BUFFET

Of course enjoy it once or twice but when you have a full sized and fully equipped kitchen in your room you have the ability to make your own healthy and nutritious breakfasts each morning.

2.     WALK

Every day we like to start our day with a nice long walk to grab a coffee. It’s the best way to enjoy the sites and stay active at the same time.

3.     IN ROOM CIRCUIT

When I travel I like to still try to get in a workout or two. I usually do a circuit in my room. You can find a heap of no equipment needed ones on my @move.mama Instagram page.

4.     ACTIVE SITE SEEING

We love to pick things to do that involve us keeping active like a national park walk (Mossman Gorge this holiday or playing on the beach.

5.     STAY HYDRATED

It’s so easy to forget to drink enough water while holidaying especially while relaxing and enjoying a few cocktails or while walking so much. I like to make sure I take my reusable drink bottle from home so I have it with me everywhere we go. Aim for at least 2 litres per day but even more if you’re drinking alcohol, spending prolonged periods outdoors or exercising.

THINGS TO DO IN PORT DOUGLAS

Port Douglas is fantastic family holiday destination with plenty to do and see but also a place to chill and relax by the pool.

Must do’s

-       WILDLIFE HABITAT

Just a few minutes from the Wyndham.

Animal park perfect for kids of all ages. It’s a fully interactive experience and Millie loved feeding the kangaroos and hugging a koala.

-       MOSSMAN GORGE

The most beautiful day trip in the most beautiful rainforest. It’s an easy walk to a nice little swimming hole and if you have older kids or can walk with a baby carrier there is a great trail walk you can do too. Highly recommend this gorgeous place!

-       FOUR MILE BEACH

Just outside the resort is the postcard perfect “Four Mile Beach”. It’s the perfect spot to let the kids run wild. Keep an eye out for signage for where you can swim though.

-       GREAT BARRIER REEF

Take a day trip to the Great Barrier Reef. There’s plenty of options for swimmers and non-swimmer so the kids can come too and enjoy a day out.

-       SUNDAY MARKETS

Every Sunday there are local markets held in Market Park in down by the water in Port Douglas with a fun range of stalls from clothing, food, furniture, homewares and more.

-       RELAX

With so many fun activities around Port Douglas to keep you busy don’t forget to schedule some time to relax by the resort pool. The food and drink at Wyndham are super yummy and make for a fun time by the pool or book in for a massage at the Day Spa.

PLACES TO EAT:

Port Douglas is full of great restaurants and cafes it’s hard to decide where to go. Our top picks.

BREAKFAST:

We mainly chose to make breakfast in our room as its one of the easiest ways to stay healthy on holidays by ensuring you eat a yummy, nutrient packed breakfast plus they even had a blender so we could make our morning smoothies.

But when we did decide to go out this was the top recommendation by you guys.

LITLE LARDER, Macrossan St.

 DINNER:

There’s so much choice but these 2 would be our favourites.

SALSA – Warf st, Port Douglas.

Amazing Modern Australian Menu and a Port Douglas icon.

SEA BEAN – Warf St, Port Douglas

Spanish Style tapas and cocktails in a relaxed family friendly vibe.

We had such a great, relaxing and fun time in Port Douglas and we will definitely go back. The Wyndham was the perfect resort for us and I’m sure you guys would love it too.
